Construction starts Monday on new water line downtown

Some traffic delays expected for A Avenue work

Construction crews are ready to start working to replace a 1960s water line that runs beneath A Avenue's westbound lanes from Fourth to 10th streets downtown.

Work begins Monday at 10th Street, city officials said.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane on westbound A Avenue and connecting streets at times throughout the project, with flaggers on hand to keep cars moving through the area. The work will also require temporary closures of alleys on the north side of A Avenue at various points.

In addition, A Avenue's eastbound lanes will be affected on occasion as connections are made from the north to south sides of the street.

Work for this phase of A Avenue construction will be completed by June 15. Paving is expected to begin in early July, according to the city.
