Destination Recreation at the Oregon State Fair will have something “sporty” for everyone.

The Destination Recreation area, located south of the pavilion is the place to go for free or low-cost sporting activities during the fair.

The fair runs Aug. 24 to Sept. 3 at the state fairgrounds (2330 17th Street N.E.) in Salem.

Returning to the 2012 Destination Recreation Area is the Les Schwab Tires Flat Track racing series. The series runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 24 to 26 and again from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 31 to Sept. 2. The series will end with a Labor Day Demolition Derby from 4 to 6 pm.

Also returning are those zippy, Black Flag Racing Go-Kart Rides. Rentals for rides will be available beginning Aug. 29 at 10 a.m.

Capitol City BMX is returning with an all-new BMX Track. The rebuild was just completed, and will be open daily during the fair for open rides and competitions. Also back with a bang is the War Paint International Paintball Shooting Gallery, and for a different spin, Laser Tag Gaming.

New this year is the Kritters 4 Kids Camel Rides. These Hollywood camels have starred in both movies and television and are prepared to provide fun rides for the entire family. For the younger kids, the 25-foot tall and 156 foot-long Mobile Zip Line will be offered open to close daily, as well as Blue Water Promotions Outdoor Fishing and Town and Country Lanes Outdoor Bowling.

Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will be on hand to assist with ATV certifications, while the Oregon National Guard Hoopla organization will provide open play basketball, free to all.
