‘Getting in on the Act’ is topic of FORGE luncheon Nov. 20

Deborah Edward, executive director of Business for Culture and the Arts, will present “Getting in on the Act” at the Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce’s FORGE luncheon Nov. 20. The presentation will include recent research on the economic impact of arts and culture and discuss how business can benefit from engaging in art-related volunteerism and investment.

Edward joined the BCA in 2012, and brought to the position experience in the arts as an executive director, teacher, consultant and change agent. She founded and led for 16 years the Austin Children’s Museum; she was also founding director of Greenlights for NonProfit Success, which provides nonprofit management assistance to Central Texas. In this role she provided monthly board training to hundreds of board members.

Edward has helped nonprofits and arts groups in Texas, New Mexico, Czech Republic, Russia and Bulgaria. Edward was the field consultant for MidAmerica Arts Alliance Board training from 2008 to 2010, working with 30 museums around Texas on issues of governance. She holds a Ph.D. in educational psychology from the University of Texas at Austin.

The FORGE luncheon will be held at Marylhurst University’s old library in the administration building beginning at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $20 for Lake Oswego chamber members, Arts Council and Lakewood Center members and $25 for non-members.
