Following the Catholic tradition, Our Lady of the Lake has placed a papal bunting over the church doors in celebration of the election of the Pope Francis. In the Catholic tradition, yellow and white buntings are put up outside the church to honor the election of a new pope. The bunting celebrates the unity, solidarity and universality of the Catholic Church. Yellow and white are the colors of the flag of Vatican City.

“In conversations with parishoners at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, I can tell they are very excited about our new Pope Francis,” said Father John Kerns of Our Lady of the Lake. “ Many have told me that they are grateful to see the outward display on our church celebrating with Catholics around the world the election of Pope Francis.”

The bunting is traditionally taken down after the installation of the pope, however the bunting at OLL will remain in place until after the installation of Alexander Sample as Archbishop of West Oregon on April 2.
