New Riverdale super named

New hire to begin in July


The Riverdale School District board announced it has chosen the next superintendent.Brandon

The board plucked Terry Brandon from a pool of 35 candidates from across the country. Brandon is scheduled to take the reins on July 1. The board and Brandon are hammering out a tentative agreement to be formalized at a public meeting.

For the last seven years, Brandon has worked as executive director of human resources at Marysville School District in Marysville, Wash. In Washington, he was the superintendent of Deer Park School District for five years and superintendent of the Pomeroy School District for four years, said Jody Haagenson, Riverdale School District spokeswoman.

Brandon’s teaching background is in industrial education and math.

He earned a master’s in education from Eastern Washington University, where he also got a bachelor’s in education.

“When my wife and I visited the students, staff and community at Riverdale, we just felt connected,” Brandon said. “I look forward to building lasting relationships as we move the school district forward.”

Brandon is the president of the Washington Association of School Administrators, Region 109, and past president of the Employee Relations and Negotiations Network.

Interim Superintendent Michael Taylor was a member of the screening committee, along with school board members, school district administrators, the grade school and high school principals, teachers, other school employees and parents. Taylor is one in a pool of superintendents who take on interim roles to help out school districts in need of a leader.

Former Superintendent Brook MacNamara began at Riverdale in 2010 and resigned in October because of a severe illness.
