Event shifts to Lake Oswego this summer

by: RON LEBLANC - The West Linn Fine Arts Festival will be making a move this year to the Marylhurst campus. The West Linn Fine Arts Festival will return for its 14th annual go-round on Aug. 3 and 4, this time at a new home on the Marylhurst University campus in Lake Oswego.

The festival was previously held at Willamette Park, but organizers decided to move it to Marylhurst this year to make attendance more convenient.

“The move, as I understand it, is to be more centrally located to the two largest communities that attend — West Linn and Lake Oswego,” said event spokeswoman KC Cowan. “Marylhurst is perfectly situated between them both and, because it’s on Highway 43, it is also a great location for anyone passing by who might be interested.”

Parking this year will be available across the Marylhurst campus, with a free shuttle bus running between the parking areas and booth setups.

A consistent draw for families out of West Linn, Lake Oswego, Portland and Vancouver, Wash., the West Linn Fine Arts Festival offers more than 90 booths featuring original artwork. Artists must submit applications for a booth, and then a jury panel reviews the work before deciding whether to accept it for the festival.

The application deadline for artists was April 22, and since then the jurying process was completed and letters of acceptance were sent out. As it was last year, there is a waiting list, and according to Cowan the next step will be to see how many people reply to the acceptance letters with their entry fees.

“We’re really excited,” Cowan said. “We have a really good range of art, too, everything from sculpture, ceramics, paintings, mixed media, fiber art and jewelry.”
