Fourth of July fun starts early


Concert at Millennium Plaza Park is scheduled for July 3

Lake Oswego’s Fourth of July celebration gets started on July 3 with a patriotic concert in Millennium Plaza Park performed by the Millennium Concert Band. Under the direction of Dale Cleland, the band will present a USO-style concert, with military music and marches. There will be a traditional ceremonial presentation of the colors and veterans will be honored.by: STAFF FILE PHOTO: VERN UYETAKE - Dont miss Lake Oswegos traditional parade down A Avenue on the Fourth. Those wishing to be in the parade should gather at the staging area on Lake Garden Court at  9 a.m. All vehicles and large groups are asked to register with the parks and recreation department.

The concert is free and begins at 7 p.m. Bring sand chairs and a picnic dinner.

On the Fourth of July don’t miss the Lake Oswego Lions Club’s pancake breakfast served at George Rogers Park from 7 a.m. to noon.

Those wishing to march in the Star Spangled Parade down A Avenue should gather in the staging area on Lake Garden Court at 9 a.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m.

All vehicles and large groups wishing to be in the parade must preregister with Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation. Call Debbi at 503-697-6590 for details.

Follow the parade to Millennium Plaza Park, where festivities, including rock and roll music from the Menace Band and a pie-eating contest, are planned until 2 p.m. Don’t miss the face painting, balloon animals and an all-American meal from Pine Shed Ribs, pies baked by Blue Raven Farmstand, ice cream from Youth Action Council and kettlecorn and cotton candy from Klassic Kettlecorn.

A firework display over Oswego Lake will begin at dusk.

Because of the fireworks display the following roads will have restricted access from 7:30 p.m. to midnight: Cardinal Drive, Chapman Way, Kelok Road, Lamont Way, Lord’s Lane.

In addition there will be restricted access on Bryant Road from Lakeview to Jean, Lakeview Boulevard from Bryant to Iron Mountain and South Shore Boulevard from Westview Drive to Lakeview Boulevard. Road closures should be expected in the area of Iron Mountain, Chandler, A Avenue and Evergreen.
