WATER CONSERVATION — The city will offer a free class for water utility customers to learn about controlling water costs. The class will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. today at city hall, 380 A Ave., and will cover using water meters, understanding water bills, using the city’s weather stations to manage outdoor watering and irrigation tips and techniques.

FINANCES — The city recently received the Government Finances Officers Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 2011-12 fiscal year.

BUDGET COMMITTEE — The city is accepting applications for a three-year term on the volunteer budget committee, which reviews and fine-tunes a spending plan proposed in the spring, advancing its recommendation to the city council for adoption. SKATE PARK — Lake Oswego’s public skate park recently held its first photo contest and announced the winner during Go Skateboarding Day in June. Branden Chang took the winning image, which will be featured in the city’s 2013 fall activities guide. The skate park is located at 5520 Willow Road.

CITY COUNCIL — The city council has scheduled a special meeting next week to hold public hearings on two appeals. One involves the city’s recent approval of Kruse Village, a planned 64,000-square-foot commercial Gramor Development project at Carman Drive and Kruse Way. The other involves the planned removal of six trees to make way for a new home on Koderra Avenue. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at city hall, 380 A Ave.
