Principals are on the move
In preparation for Bryant and Uplands elementary schools closing this fall, the Lake Oswego School District announced new assignments for its principals.
Dan Sterling, who has been principal at Bryant for five years, and Carol Whitten, who is currently in her second year at Uplands, will both move with some of their staff and students to new schools - Sterling to River Grove and Whitten to Lake Grove.
'These assignments are being announced at this time so that our administrators can be involved in planning for the changes coming next year,' said Superintendent Bill Korach. 'Outgoing and incoming administrators will be working with staff, parents and students in the coming months to begin developing relationships and ensure smooth leadership transitions.'
Sara Deboy, who is in her fifth year as principal at Lake Grove Elementary, will take the place of Steve Mauritz at Hallinan Elementary School, who is retiring this year.
Additionally, the district is changing the administration at its middle schools with the shift of sixth graders to the junior high schools. Both schools will have vice principals with elementary school experience.
Current River Grove Principal Nancy Verstegen will be the new vice principal at Lake Oswego Junior High School after seven years in her present position.
Michael Esping, who was principal during Palisades Elementary School's last year open, will be the new vice principal at Waluga. Esping has been serving as vice principal at Waluga and LOJHS for the 2011-2012 school year, helping to plan for the transition of sixth graders to the middle school level. Before working at Palisades he was principal at Oak Creek Elementary School.
Dave Lovelin, current vice principal at Lake Oswego High School, will be the new principal at Waluga, following the previously announced move of Jennifer Shiele to the post of principal at Lakeridge High School after Mike Lehman's retirement. Lovelin worked in his position at LOHS for five years.
Joining Schiele at Lakeridge will be John Parke, who is has also split duties between Waluga and LOJHS as vice principal. Parke worked in that position for the last two years, and the district used a teacher on special assignment to fill in for any administrative duties while Parke was at the other school. Parke will now serve as vice principal at Lakeridge.
Jason Wold, currently vice principal at Lakeridge High School, will replace Lovelin at LOHS as vice principal.
'In a time of significant change for our students, staff and parents, the district is fortunate to have a talented, experienced team of school administrators to facilitate these transitions and provide the best conditions for the upcoming school year,' said Korach.
The following principals will not be moving from their current assignments: Forest Hills Elementary Principal Gwen Hill, Oak Creek Elementary Principal Karen Lachman, Westridge Elementary Principal Scott Lane, Lake Oswego Junior High School Principal Ann Gerson and Lake Oswego High School Principal Bruce Plato, as well as LOHS Assistant Principal Cindy Schubert and Lakeridge Assistant Principal Robert Caplinger.
