Final farmers market, blood drive, shred day

FARMERS MARKET — Saturday is the final farmers market of the year at Millennium Plaza Park.

BLOOD DRIVE — A blood drive is scheduled Friday at city hall. The event will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. City hall is located at 380 A Ave. Walk-ins are welcome, but you can also make an appointment by going online to redcrossblood.org/make-donation and using the sponsor code “locityhall” or by calling 1-800-733-3767.

SHRED DAY — The city will host a free document shredding event from 10 a.m. to about 1 p.m. Saturday. Residents can safely and securely dispose of up to three boxes or bags of sensitive paperwork such as old bank and credit card statements and tax forms. The event will end sooner if the truck gets full. The event will take place at the West End Building, 4101 Kruse Way.

Canned food donations are encouraged and will be given to the Oregon Food Bank.

FIRE PREVENTION — It’s fire prevention week. In connection with the event, the city is offering tips for kitchen safety. Cooking equipment is involved in about 150,000 home fires each year, according to the city. For a kitchen safety checklist, visit bit.ly/1hwUCdz.

PHOTO CONTEST — Voting is open in the city’s annual photo contest. Choose your favorite pictures from five categories at ci.oswego.or.us/publicaffairs/photo-contest-voting. Winners will be announced in November. The deadline to vote is Tuesday.

UNSUNG HEROES — The city is accepting nominations for its annual Unsung Hero awards, which recognize residents who make a positive different in the community. The deadline to submit nominations is Nov. 1. Applications are online at ci.oswego.or.us/publicaffairs/unsung-heroes, at city hall, 380 A Ave., or by calling 503-635-0257.

DEVELOPMENT REVIEW — The city is accepting applications for upcoming vacancies on the Lake Oswego Development Review Commission. The seven-member DRC reviews land use applications. Members are appointed by the city council to serve three-year terms. For more information about the commission, visit ci.oswego.or.us/boc_drc.
