The Lake Oswego Police Department will hold its Halloween/Fall DUII enforcement detail from today through Sunday.

The LOPD's high visibility enforcement will send out extra patrols in and around the city with the specific focus of identifying and arresting impaired drivers. City police offer the reminder that a driver can be impaired by intoxicants that include alcohol, illicit drugs and prescription medication.

Drivers arrested for DUII are subject to a number of monetary fines as well as having their license suspended.

This is a joint project between the LOPD and Oregon Impact.

Some grim national statistics on DUII show that one drunk driving fatality occurs ever 53 minutes and that there are 139 DUII arrests every hour.
