Lake Oswego and West Linn tied for No. 8 in a list of the top 10 Oregon cities as ranked by Movoto, an online real estate brokerage.

The company's blog put Bend at the top of the list, followed by Sherwood, Beaverton, Milwaukie, Oregon City and Tigard. Portland then came in at No. 7, followed by West Linn and Lake Oswego. Happy Valley took the final slot in the top 10.

The cities were ordered “from amazing to simply excellent,” according to Movoto, based in San Mateo, Calif. Rankings factored in amenities, cost of living, crime rates, education data, median income, home values and proximity to opportunities for hiking and skiing.

Describing the locales’ best attributes, the blog said West Linn makes up for what it “lacks in big city livin’” with a low crime rate, stellar education system and high median household income. In addition, it highlighted the city’s holiday events, local fairs and outdoor summer concerts at Tanner Creek Park as qualities that make West Linn “a great place to raise a family and a quiet town to come home to.”

West Linn’s “big deal score,” taking into account the combination of rankings across all of the factors, was 16.8, compared to Bend’s top score of 12.5.

Of Lake Oswego, the blog said the community may be a suburb of Portland, “but this town stands on its own just fine.”

The Arts Council of Lake Oswego and the Lakewood Center for the Arts offer culture, while Lake Oswego is also “a family’s fantasyland” thanks to its farmers market, top high school graduation rates and some of the best home values in Oregon, according to Movoto, which described the city as a great place to raise a family but also a “nice, quaint and picturesque vacation spot.”

Like West Linn, Lake Oswego snagged a 16.8 “big deal score.”

Movoto offers an ongoing series exploring the best places to live in the United States. According to the company’s bloggers, Oregon stands out for being “one of the most naturally beautiful, unique, diverse and livable states in our country.”

Among other notable features of Oregon, according to Movoto, are that the state is responsible for bringing the TV show “Portlandia” to the world and is “the namesake of the best computer game ever, ‘Oregon Trail.’”
