Death Café set for ACC on Dec. 8

Death Café, a unique event that deals both boldly and sensitively with the subject of death, will be held at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Those wanting to attend should RSVP by calling ACC manager Ann Adrian at 503 635-3758 or emailing her at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

As described by Adrian, at Death Café, “people will sit down, drink tea, eat cake and talk about death.”

Normally an unwelcome topic of conversation, those attending Death Café will be free to ask any questions and express any thoughts they have with people who deal with death in their professions. They will include Melissa Coe of Lake Oswego, a funeral and memorial specialist and certified life cycle celebrant.

This will be only the fifth Death Café held on Oregon, and it has already drawn up to 75 people at a time.

“When they hear about Death Café people usually say, ‘Ewwwwww’ or ‘Ahhhhhh,’ “ Adrian said. “We expect to draw a lot of people who say ‘Ahhhhhhhhhh.”’

“This is an experience that will let us make the most out of our finite lives,” Coe said.
