"How do I go on a ride-along with the Lake Oswego police department?"

The Lake Oswego Police Department ridealong program provides an opportunity for citizens to experience the work of a police officer while out on patrol firsthand. Limited opportunities are offered to residents, students and those employed within the city of Lake Oswego. Citizens from outside the Lake Oswego community are generally referred to other police departments within their own community, but are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Citizens who are fortunate enough to receive approval for a ridealong are allowed to accompany a patrol officer in a police car for a maximum period of four hours. Priority consideration for a ridealong are given to police officer applicants being recruited to work for LOPD, criminal justice students or others who need a ridealong for classroom credit or school projects.WEITMAN

Citizens interested in a ride-along can call the police department business phone number, stop by LOPD to pick up an application form or obtain the necessary information and application form electronically by going to the police department website at ci.oswego.or.us/police/ride-along-application.

Applicants must complete a multiple step process that includes a security clearance (criminal history and police records check with valid driver’s license or state-issued ID), and approval from the shift supervisor. Unfortunately, not all interested persons are able to participate due to limited opportunities but every effort will be made to accommodate ridealong applicants.
