by: SUBMITTED - DEANA 40-year-old man was arrested in Portland last Friday as a suspect in the robbery of the Chase Bank in Lake Oswego on Feb. 18.

Portland Police Bureau detectives arrested Ernest Lee Dean after a high-risk traffic stop at the intersection of North Lombard Street and North Delaware Avenue. Through search warrants, the bureau found evidence that linked Dean directly to a string of robberies throughout Oregon and Washington.

Evidence was found linking the suspect was the robbery of Chase Bank on South State Street in Lake Oswego. The robber used a note to steal an undisclosed amount of cash.

Dean was booked into Multnomah County Jail Friday, then arraigned Monday on charges of first- and second-degree robbery. He was not arrested for the Chase Bank robbery.

A report from the Portland Police Bureau stated that the investigation of the suspect began on Sept. 5, 2013 when the Silver Cloud Inn in Northwest Portland was robbed at gunpoint by a masked robber, who was also purported to have a bomb. The same robber is also suspected of robbing hotels in Gresham, Hood River, Cannon Beach, Albany, Newport, and Woodland, Wash. Evidence also implicated Dean in the Chase Bank robbery. In each case the robber wielded a handgun and claimed to have a bomb. In the hotel cases, he reportedly tied the hands of employees before taking the money and getting away.

The arrest was made by the Portland Police Bureau’s Special Emergency Reaction Team.

The Lake Oswego Police Department collaborated on the investigation. Other police departments on the case included Cannon Beach, Newport, Albany, Hood River, Gresham, and the FBI.

The bureau stated that it is continuing to investigate robberies that were possibly committed by the suspect.
