Fun fashion show with local models will benefit adult community center

The daughters, moms and grandmothers of Lake Oswego will be the featured models at Runway on the Lake on April 6 at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center.

Kathy Schilling, director of special events for the city of Lake Oswego, said she wanted to have an event that would not only reflect Lake Oswego at its best but also raise money for the LOACC. She seems to have hit a bullseye with Runway on the Lake.

“It’s going to be an intergenerational event,” said Schilling. “We’re going to have models of all ages, and it will be great exposure for the ACC. This will fund all of their services, like Meals on Wheels, that benefit our community so much.”

Schilling anticipates a big turnout, saying, “When you do a party in Lake Oswego, people come.”

“It’s a great way to support our community and show what great businesses we have here,” said Jamie Inglis, manager of the Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market, who is assisting Schilling. “It’s something different. It’s something we’ve never done before. It’s about everything Lake Oswego has to offer.”

The format of Runway on the Lake is simple. Models of all ages will model fashions from clothing shops in Lake Oswego. Adding to the posh atmosphere will be a tea party, with tea provided by Moya Stephens of Lady Di’s Tea Room, tea sandwiches made under the supervision of Schilling and Granny’s Scottish shortbread, all served on bone china.

As for the emcee of the event, Schilling went out and got a true Lake Oswego glamour girl — Portland television personality Hayley Platt. In recruiting Platt for the job, it helped that she is Schilling’s daughter-in-law.

“I grew up in Lake Oswego, and I’m happy to do something that will benefit the community,” said Platt, who now appears on KGW television in Portland. “The ACC is a special part of our community.”

Inglis is thrilled with the models she has lined up. To name just a couple there are Kyra Bussanich, America’s cupcake queen of Kyra’s Bake Shop of Lake Oswego and Kelly Calabria of Kelly’s Jelly. Joining Kelly on the runway will be her two young daughters. The male models on hand will include representatives from the city council, police department and fire department.

“We have 12 or 13 models. It’s great to have that many for a first-time event,” Inglis said. “We’ll have so many clothes that we may have to get more models. You can come and see your friends strut down the runway.”

Schilling and Inglis think this event will be only the first of many Runways on the Lake to come.

“We think we’re doing something really well and that it is going to expand,” said Schilling.

“We hope it grows,” Inglis said. “We hope it will be really successful.”

Tickets to Runway on the Lake can be purchased in advance at the Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation Office in the West End Building on Kruse Way or online at or by calling ahead at 503-675-2549 and mailing in a check. Cost is $22 for residents and $33 for nonresidents.

The LOACC is located at 505 G Ave. The event will begin at 2 p.m.

Shops providing clothes and accessories for the fashion show include Francesca’s, Mela, Glass Butterfly, New to You: Simply Posh, Accessories From the Heart, Chico’s Lake Oswego, Patrick James, Lake Oswego Municipal Golf Course, the Clothes Closet, E.G.
