Lakeridge High School has announced that Terry Moore has been selected as the Pacers' new athletic director.
Moore, a coach and teacher at the school, will replace Athletic Director Ian O'Brien, who is returning to the Warrenton-Hammond School District to serve as vice principal of Warrenton High School. O'Brien joined the Lake Oswego School District in July 2015; his last day is June 30, and Moore's will take over as AD on July 1.
"I am honored to have been selected as the new athletic director," Moore said. "Having been a part of the Lakeridge community for the last 19 years has given me first-hand knowledge of how great a place it is. I am excited to get to work with the amazing administration, staff and students at Lakeridge to build upon the successes of the past. I look forward to helping Lakeridge to reach even greater heights in the years to come."
An announcement from the LOSD said Moore is "a highly experienced athletic coach." He currently serves Lakeridge as the head coach for track and field and as the varsity assistant coach for football. He also has been the head coach for Lakeridge wrestling. And he has experience as an assistant coach in football, track, wrestling and softball at Lakeridge, as well as at Tigard High School and Woodburn High School.
In addition, Moore is a high-ranking teacher with 28 years of experience. He is the math department chair at Lakeridge, where he has taught all levels of high school math through advanced placement Calculus and Calculus 3. He's also led college-level math and education classes.
"Terry is … a caring and creative educator who has a deep and enduring impact on coaches, athletes, teachers and students," the LOSD announcement said.
Moore was rewarded for this commitment to students in 2010 as the recipient of the OnPoint Prize for Excellence in Education Community Choice Teacher of the Year.
Lakeridge High School Principal Jennifer Schiele said that Moore is a welcome addition to the Lakeridge administrative team.
"Terry is a fair decision maker and assures that both sides of an issue are fully vetted before confidently making a decision," Schiele said. "We are very excited to welcome him to the current Pacer administrative team and look forward to working with him for years to come!"
Moore is not only a local teacher but also a local parent. He and wife Kristin — his college sweetheart, who also teaches at Lakeridge — moved to Lake Oswego in 2015 after he'd already been working at the school. Both active in sports, their two children graduated from Lakeridge, their daughter in 2011 and their son in 2016. Their daughter's now an engineer in the Bay Area, and she was involved in cross-country and track as well as school choral and drama programs. Their son is currently studying computer science at Oregon State University, and he was involved in football and track while at Lakeridge.
"We moved to Lake Oswego primarily for the outstanding schools," Terry Moore said. "And it was a great decision as the district did right by my kids. They've grown into caring, compassionate, and successful young adults."
