Tree Protection and Removal workshop among the events in Lake Oswego this week

TREE PROTECTION & REMOVAL WORKSHOP (AUG. 10): Lake Oswego residents are invited to explore the City's Tree Code requirements for tree protection and tree removal permits at a workshop tonight that will include an indoor presentation and outdoor demonstration. City staff will provide examples of measuring tree diameter, tree protection fencing, techniques for protecting trees during construction and more. The workshop is scheduled from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday at City Hall (380 A Ave.). It's free and open to the public with preregistration. MOVIES IN THE PARK (AUG 10): Celebrate summer on Thursday night with a family-friendly movie under the stars at Millennium Plaza Park (200 First St.). Popcorn and other tasty treats will be for sale, but be sure to bring your own blankets, pillows and low-back chairs. The movie — "Sing" — is free and starts at dusk.

FARMERS MARKET (AUG. 12): The Lake Oswego Farmers Market returns to Millennium Plaza Park on Saturday, with more than 80 vendors offering fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, cheeses, baked goods, hot foods, artisan products and nursery items. Live music, too. Hours are 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

MUSIC & MOONLIGHT (AUG. 13): The City's popular Music & Moonlight concert series continues at 6 p.m. Sunday with a performance by Tom Grant in Millennium Plaza Park (200 First St.). The family-friendly concerts are free.

IN THE PATH OF TOTALITY (AUG. 15): Jim Todd, the director of space science education at OMSI — and a Lakeridge High grad! — will talk about how to prepare for the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse at a special presentation from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Lake Oswego Public Library (706 Fourth St.). Admission is free.

SOUNDS OF SUMMER (AUG. 16): Lake Oswego's free, family-friendly Sounds of Summer concert series continues at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Westlake Park (14165 Bunick Drive). On stage this week: Cloverdayle.

NINTH-ANNUAL PHOTO CONTEST: Amateur and professional photographers are invited to enter their best images in the ninth-annual City of Lake Oswego photo contest. There are seven categories, with prizes given to first-, second- and third-place winners. All winning photos will be included in a special photo exhibit throughout the following year, as well as on the City's website, in its HelloLO publications and in The Review. Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8; contest winners will be announced in November.
