The Oregon State Extension Service Master Gardeners are planning a free Garden Discovery Day on March 2 at the Milwaukie Center, 5440 SE Kellogg Creek Drive in Milwaukie. The event features 10-minute classes from 9 a.m. to noon.
The event is for gardeners of all skill levels. The 10-Minute University sessions cover a wide range of information in a concise format. Two classes are offered every 30 minutes. The schedule includes these classes:
9 a.m. Early season vegetables and lawn care
9:30 a.m. Raised bed gardening and pruning trees and shrubs
10 a.m. Introduction to berries and spring garden maintenance
10:30 a.m. Pruning fruit trees and starting your vegetable garden
11 a.m. Mason bees and edible landscaping
11:30 a.m. Gardening with compost and mulch and managing slugs and snails
Attendees can also have their garden soil pH tested and receive advice on amendments.
A gardening clinic will also be held and seasoned Master Gardeners will provide personalized advice on gardening questions.
Master Gardeners are volunteers trained by Oregon State University in the science of gardening. They provide free advice that is research-based, reliable and localized to this area. They promote sustainability by encouraging gardening practices that conserve water, improve soil health and protect the environment.
