Make Boones Ferry Road safe Ñ vote for 3-406

Everyone wants their voice heard when it comes to matters of their community and Lake Grove is no different. I am writing as a concerned local community member. As an employee of Doug DiCola’s Allstate Agency, I travel Boones Ferry Road daily.

I’ve witnessed countless near misses between vehicles and pedestrians. I am deeply concerned about the safety of our walking community members. Crosswalk safety should be a personal mission for Lake Grove. New bike lanes and safe right turns in and out of businesses are needed. Safe legal U-turns at three new intersections within the nine-tenths of a mile will be created as well as legal U-turns at all existing intersections.

These safety measures are desperately needed. According to Lake Oswego Police reports, Boones Ferry Road has the highest vehicular accident rate of any street in our city. Providing newly lighted, landscaped and level sidewalks, plus a signalized crossing by the main entrance to Lake Grove Elementary School, would be a welcomed addition for all citizens, especially our children and our elderly.

In addition, other pedestrian crossings will be placed between signalized intersections and finally make it easy for pedestrians to cross Boones Ferry Road in safety.

Supporting the $5 million bond measure is critical to restoring safe passage through this area. We can all afford 5 cents a day or $15 per year for the average $300,000 property. Even that small amount decreases over time with inflation. These funds will be used to commence the transformation of Boones Ferry Road and bring it into the 21st century. By making these significant improvements, we are providing a safe and welcoming environment for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists.

When you receive your ballot, vote yes on bond Measure 3-406. It is time to restore a sense of safety and harmony for all that reside, work, live and travel in Lake Grove.
