I am running for re-election to the Lake Oswego School Board, Position 3. Serving our community the past four years has been both an honor and a privilege. It has also come with having to make hard and sometimes unpopular decisions while strategically working to make sure our district remains the best in the state. I am running again to finish important work and to provide continuity to the board during the transition of leadership when we hire a new superintendent. Wendland

As the only incumbent running, I have a record to stand on. We have outstanding schools and provide the right conditions for our children to flourish in their pursuit of learning. I have run a positive campaign and have focused on the issues at hand.

In the past several weeks, my opponent’s supporters have attacked my personal integrity and leadership. Misinformation, falsehood, conspiracy theories and fictional writing has no place in school board elections. In fact, I wish it would leave local Lake Oswego politics as well. It is horrible role modeling for our kids and divides what I think is a wonderful community of great people that should be working together to solve problems and address issues for the greater good.

Last week, I was challenged in a letter regarding my support of Kevin Robertson. I fully endorse Kevin, and I fully endorse Liz Hartman for school board as well. I helped recruit both of them to run. We need intelligent, open-minded and dedicated people on school board. Both Kevin and Liz have outstanding credentials, a wealth of experience on school issues because they have lived it, will represent all children and are independent thinkers. They are smart and care deeply about the entire district. They have no special interests or hidden agendas that will sideline the business of the district.

During my years on the board, the collaborative approach of facing challenges, rolling up our sleeves, working toward resolution and making final decisions is one of the reasons we have an outstanding district.

Every day, I think about the safety and well-being of our staff and our kids and hope that each day they will be at school with renewed energy, strong purpose and infectious enthusiasm to teach and learn. I shall continue to work hard for our schools, if re-elected, and continue doing everything possible to keep our schools great with collaborative and positive leadership.
