Abortion industry must be held accountable

I’m sure many of your other readers were as horrified as I was by the revelations that came out of the recent trail of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell.

  • Fetal remains stuffed in refrigerators, mil jus, cat food boxes and even a bizarre collection of several fetal feet displayed in jars.
  • Medical-waste-filled boxes leaking blood onto the floor ... unwashed and contaminated medical instruments spreading disease.
  • Third-term live births cut short after Gosnell or associates would “snip” the baby’s neck to “ensure fetal demise.”
  • One baby was delivered into a toilet and thrashed around so that it appeared to be “swimming,” whereupon it was lifted from the commode and had its neck snipped.
  • One baby’s weight was estimated at 6 pounds, whereupon Gosnell reportedly “joked” that it was big enough to “walk me to the bus stop.”
  • Gosnell joked as one baby writhed while he snipped its neck, “That’s what you call a chicken with its head cut off.”
  • Karnamaya Mongar, a 41-year-old woman, died in Gosnell’s clinic in part because it failed to meet even the minimum standards of an outpatient surgical center.
  • But if anything, I was even more horrified by the testimony of an abortion-industry lobbyist about a state law that would require efforts to save the lives of babies born alive after attempted abortions.

Planned Parenthood lobbyist Alisa LaPolt Snow was asked by a Florida representative: “So, it’s just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief. If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”

Ms. Snow: “Un, well, we believe that any decision made should be left up to the woman, her family and the physician.”

This chilling response from the lobbyist for Planned Parenthood — by far the largest and most influential abortion provider in the country - raises a question:

More than 55 million abortions have taken place in America since Roe v. Wade — why isn’t this industry held accountable?

I call upon Oregon Gov. Kitzhaber and our Oregon Legislature to ensure that abortion clinics operating in our state are investigated and held accountable.

And I urge my fellow readers of the West Linn Tidings to directly contact Gov. Kitzhaber and their representatives in the state Legislature, and join in this urgent call for a public investigation and hearings.

Until we know for sure, we can’t just assume that what we now know happened in Gosnell’s clinic isn’t happening right here and now in Oregon.
