When I was offered a job in Portland a few years ago, my husband and I knew very little about the area. We knew we could easily find excellent restaurants, great craft beer and amazing places to hike and camp.

When it came time to decide where to live, a topnotch school district for our kindergartner and first-grader was our primary consideration. It didn’t take much research to determine Lake Oswego was the place to be.

Fast forward to the present and we couldn’t be happier with our decision.

Our fourth-grader, Peter, has excelled academically and is now taking fifth-grade math and participating in the talented and gifted program. Our third-grader, Natalie, also is excelling academically thanks to smaller class sizes and breakout reading and math groups tailored to students’ abilities.

Identifying each child’s unique abilities as well as areas where they might need some help is possible in our school district thanks to the Lake Oswego School Foundation’s resources. Smaller class sizes means more individualized attention to students, less stress on the teachers and a better learning environment. I can truly say that my children are in a school with nurturing and caring teachers who help foster a sense of community, and this is the best gift my husband and I could give them.

When I think about the fact that the LOSF funded 20 teachers in Lake Oswego schools last year, I feel truly fortunate to be part of such a generous community. It is my honor, and I also feel my duty, to give to the LOSF and support its efforts. Each child in the district benefits from the extra teachers the foundation funds, which is why it is so important for those who can support the foundation to do their part by giving. We are all in this together, and the more families that participate, the stronger our schools will be.

Please consider giving to the foundation. Your support is a guaranteed positive investment in our children, teachers, school and community.
