Lakers grind out tourney opener over Southridge

The Lake Oswego boys basketball team survived another scare in its opening game of the state tournament on Wednesday.

The Lakers shot the ball poorly all game long and succumbed to Southridge's slow pace but held on for a 44-34 win to move into the semifinals.

Lake Oswego led for the majority of the game but could never fully shake the Skyhawks, needing another late run in the final minutes to seal the win.

Calvin Hermanson had a game-high 22 points, 15 in the second half to lead the Lakers.

The Lakers move on to face familiar foe West Linn in the semifinals. Lake Oswego knocked off the Lions in the semis last year and won both regular season matches this winter.
