Pacers score early in win over Lakers

Lakeridge snaps a losing streak an moves to 3-4 in Three Rivers League

by: MATTHEW SHERMAN - Lake Oswego's Samantha Silva slides into home plate in the second inning in Monday's Civil War loss to Lakeridge at Lake Oswego Jr. High. The Lakeridge softball team broke a four-game losing streak on Monday, topping Lake Oswego 15-1 at Lake Oswego Junior High School.

The Pacers jumped on Lake Oswego early, capitalizing on an illegal pitch call to post a big number early.

It appeared that the Lakers were out of the inning after Kalin Rooney grounded to second base for the third out. However, an illegal pitch was called which allowed Samantha Danchok to score and gave Rooney second life.

Rooney would go on to draw a walk which opened the floodgates.

After Alicia Loiler was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Anne Monroe knocked an RBI single and Bailey Morris followed with a two-run single.

When the dust had settled, Lakeridge had posted seven runs to take a commanding lead.

Rooney retired the side in the bottom of the first and then led off the top of the second with a double to left field.

Shekina Boe had an RBI fielder's choice and Danchok provided the big hit with a two-run single as Lakeridge went up 11-0.

In the bottom of the second, Samantha Silva led off by getting hit by a pitch. She would then steal second base and score on a wild pitch for the Lakers' lone run.

Lakeridge's victory followed a string of four straight losses during which the Pacers scored just one run.

The Pacers will look to climb the standings further when they host Oregon City this Friday at 6 p.m.
