Laker track teams battle West Linn

by: VERN UYETAKE - Lake Oswego's Mitra LeBuhn clears a hurdle in route to winning the 110 hurdles in last week's dual meet with West Linn. The Lake Oswego track team had another strong showing in its meet with West Linn last week in an afternoon that showcased both teams' strengths.

In the boys meet, the Lakers dominated the sprints with Eric Soo capturing both the 100 and the 200 handily. Kyle Gazzigli would take second in the 100 and third in the 200 while Young Kim finished second in the 200.

David Soo and Pattrick Gregerson finished 1-2 in the 400. However, in the distance events, West Linn shined, racking up wins in the 800, 1500 and 3000.

In the hurdles, Connor Bracken won the 110 and 300 while Alex Tymchenko was third in the 110 and second in the 300.

Lake Oswego would also win both relays.

In the field, Kyle Peterson and Jacob Cho finished 1-2 in the shot put with Peterson hoisting a winning toss of nearly 43 feet.

Michael Di Re won the discus with a throw of 124'6” and Mason Collett and Dane Jones took first and second in the high jump with Collett clearing 6'2”.

Ike Worth won the pole vault with a clearance of 11 feet.

For the girls, it was the Lakers who were dominant in the distances. Samarra Watson and Shea Vallair took 1-2 in the 800 and Vallaire would capture the 1500 as well, nearly breaking five minutes in the process.

Becca Miles and Anna Peaslee would then finish 1-2 in the 3000.

In the hurdles, Mitra LeBuhn was a double winner while Emily Elott and Madelynn Ellis took second and third in the 300 event.

Ellis would also win the shot put with a throw of 27'4”.

In the discus, Lauren Olson, Julia Moreland and Marissa Taylor finished 1-2-3 while Erika Treske and Kendra Jackson finished 1-2 in the high jump.

It was another 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault with Marissa Taylor winning the event, followed by Treske and Peaslee.

Treske would capture another event with her leap of 16'2” in the long jump.

The Lakers also went 1-2 in the triple jump led by Kristen Pareeno and Claire Hoobler-Curtis.
