The LO boys rally for a narrow victory while the girls cruise again

The Lake Oswego swim teams earned a sweep of Oregon City last week with the boys team stealing an 87-83 victory thanks to a 1-2 finish in the 400 freestyle relay, the final event of the evening, and the girls winning 117-46.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick lead, winning the first four events of the meet. But Lake Oswego's depth kept the team within striking distance.

Edward Kang picked up Lake Oswego's first victory, winning the 100 butterfly in 59.23 seconds.

Two races, later, Marco Wolmarans captured the 500 freestyle in impressive fashion, knocking off one of the league's other top participants in the event by less than two seconds in 4:47.72.

After falling in the 200 freestyle relay, Lake Oswego trailed 68-56 with just three races remaining.

Lake Oswego tallied a crucial sweep in the 100 backstroke with Kang winning in 1:03.91, followed by Austin Weng and Ryan Washburne taking second and third.

Oregon City would lead 81-75 with just the final relay remaining but Lake Oswego's No. 2 team taking second place helped avoid a tie.

In the girls meet, Lake Oswego won handily winning all but two events on the day.

Lauren Wagner and Maddie McMurray took 1-2 in the 200 freestyle respectively. Lake Oswego then swept the next two races.

McMurray had no trouble with the quick turnaround, winning the 200 individual medley in 2:39.23, followed by Amy Chen and Alyssa Huque.

Yifan Mao edged out teammate Abby Lyons in the 50 freestyle, winning in 28.47 seconds while Lisa Oldham took third.

Mao would later win the 100 freestyle in convincing fashion, touching the wall in 1:04.35 while Mikayla Mathison took second.

After winning the 200 freestyle relay, the Lakers swept the final two individual events as well. Chen, Oldham and Madison Goodall took 1-2-3 in the backstroke while Lyons, Jeske Paanakker and Sarah Dolan did the same in the breaststroke, helping pace the Lakers to an easy team victory.
