Meg Godfrey takes over a solid and deep Lakeridge squad

by: MATTHEW SHERMAN - Shea Northfield is one of the Lakeridge girls tennis team's top returners this year. She is slotted in at No. 2 doubles this season paired with Rileigh Hamilton. The Lakeridge girls tennis team has a new head coach in Meg Godfrey and she hopes to build the program and be very competitive in the very strong Three Rivers League this year.

The Pacers have a deep and athletic squad, many of whom play multiple sports at Lakeridge.

“We have some well-rounded and competitive athletes. We have a few wrestlers, competitive soccer and basketball players,” Godfrey said.

As a result, the Pacers expect to be strong up and down the roster and give opposing teams difficulty matching up.

Lakeridge returns its No. 1 singles player in Adriene Caba and she figures to battle for a trip to state this year.

Alice Chen will fill in at No. 2 singles for the Pacers, followed closely by Kristin Taylor and No. 3 and Marie Kanapeaux at No. 4.

Lakeridge is particularly strong in doubles this year with a handful of players returning from last spring.

At No. 1, Olivia Onustock is paired with Yumi Ito, a team that hopes to be one of the tops in the TRL.

Shea Northfield and Rileigh Hamilton are slotted into the No. 2 position and Anna Seydel and Maris Bouc fill in at No. 3.

Analesa Fisher and Mackenzie Sandor are currently situation at No. 4 for the Pacers.

In early practices so far, Lakeridge has been focusing on being prepared physically for the tough season.

“I learned during the interview process that this team was serious about conditioning. Starting in January we began conditioning sessions after school. Not only did this help get us ready physically for the season, but it was also a great team building activity,” Godfrey said.

Lakeridge has also been focusing on its doubles strategy and its serve and return game.

The Pacers hope to be very competitive in the TRL this year and league matches are scheduled to start next week.

“Lake Oswego and West Linn will provide some great competition. Our team is already getting fired up,” Godfrey said.
