Pacer girls tennis team returns state qualifiers to 2012 campaign

by: MATTHEW SHERMAN Adriene Caba is back as Lakeridge’s No. 1 singles player this season. Caba was a state qualifier in singles last year and figures to be one of the top players in the Three Rivers League again.

The Lakeridge girls tennis team should be exceptionally competitive in the always strong Three Rivers League again this year.

With a strong group of returning players in both singles and doubles, Lakeridge expects to vie with Lake Oswego, Grant and West Linn for positioning at the top of the league.

Lakeridge is led by No. 1 singles player Adriene Caba, a state qualifier last season.

Brittany Dales will fill in for the Pacers at No. 2 singles and narrowly missed qualifying for state last season, giving Lakeridge a formidable top of the line-up.

In a recent match against Lake Oswego, Julia Bartlett played at No. 3 singles and Megan Mandel played No. 4 singles.

In doubles, Stacey Strovink returns this year and is paired with Maris Bouc. Strovink played No. 3 doubles for Lakeridge last year but she and her partner Olivia Moore made a fantastic run in the district tournament, making the finals and qualifying for state.

Emily Onustock and Anna Spalding are paired up at No. 2 doubles and are poised to give opposing teams problems with their athleticism.

Against Lake Oswego, Sarah Jarman and Shea Northfield filled the role at No. 3 doubles while Laura Manning and Lili Bekuhrs played at No. 4.

Lakeridge features a deep squad this season and a very large JV team as well which speaks to the strength of the program.

The Pacers lost their recent match with Lake Oswego 5-2 with one match incomplete because of rain.

Dales won in straight sets at No. 2 singles and Strovink and Bouc rallied for a three-set win at No. 1 doubles.

Lakeridge also picked up a convincing 7-1 win against a perennially strong West Linn team before spring break, getting the season started on a positive note.
