Poor air quality leads to cancellation of some varsity contests
Poor air quality in the metropolitan area due to smoke and ash from the Eagle Creek fire has led the Lake Oswego and West Linn school districts to cancel some events today and move practices for other sports inside.
At 2:25 p.m., the Lake Oswego School District relased the following:
"The LOSD has decided to move all after-school athletics activities indoors and called off the boys soccer games at LOHS (against Southridge) and Lakeridge (against Westview) that were scheduled for tonight. The games will be rescheduled."
According to the Oregon School Activities site, additional area cancellations for varsity sports include: Beaverton at West Linn girls soccer; West Linn at South Salem boys soccer; and Lakeridge girls soccer at Aloha.
Both Lake Oswego athletic director Brigham Baker and West Linn athletic director Mark Horak confirmed that the changes were due to today's poor air quality.
In addition to moving as many practices as possible indoors, West Linn also cancelled cross country practice for today.
