LOACC provides community activities, services


The Adult Community Center is a focal point for services in the community. Services are available to both members and non-members of the center. Experienced and compassionate, the social services department is here to help you when you need it. Lunch service is Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, blood pressure checks, legal advice, as well as escorts to medical appointments and more.

Friday, Sept. 7

Obtain a free blood pressure check in the Cedar room between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Walk in, donations accepted.

In Stitches, the center’s quilting group, will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Birch room and will be working cooperatively on various quilting projects. Walk-ins welcome.

Join us for lunch served by Lake Bible Church volunteers. The menu includes Caesar salad, cod with tomatoes and mushrooms, baked potato and green beans with freshly baked wheat rolls and apple spice cake for dessert. Lunch is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and older; $5 for other patrons.

After lunch join us for the Friday matinèe at 1 p.m. featuring “Zookeeper” starring Kevin James and Rosario Dawson.

The Jottings from 5th and G group will meet in the Cedar room at 1 p.m. This group meets every other month and coordinates individual submissions on various topics for the Lake Oswego Review column. Interested writers are encouraged to join.

The MAC User Group meets from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Alder room.

Monday, Sept. 10

The Computer Users Group meets in the Alder room from 9:30 to 11 a.m., with state-of-the-art equipment including both PCs and MACs.

Join us for lunch served by volunteers from New Seasons Market. Today our menu includes tossed salad, ham with maple ginger glaze, sweet potatoes and broccoli, freshly baked dinner rolls and chocolate chip cookies for dessert. Suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and older; $5 for other patrons.

Lunch and shop begins at 1 p.m. following lunch. Join others as center driver Jim Liu takes participants to WalMart in West Linn for an hour of grocery shopping. Call the center on or before Monday to sign up.

Tuesday, Sept. 11

The Happy Hikers group meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m. to explore the trails of Tryon Creek State Park.

The Lake Oswego Respite Program begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Acorn room. The program costs $30 per participant each day and is held both Tuesdays and Thursdays on an ongoing basis. Contact Human Services Supervisor Berta Derman at 503-635-3758 to register for the program.

The Mental Illness Family Support Group meets at 2 p.m. in the Cedar room. This group is open to anyone caring for a loved one with mental health issues. Walk-ins welcome, no fee to attend.

Wednesday, Sept. 12

Lake Grove Garden Club serves lunch at noon and the menu includes Caesar salad, beef pot roast with mushroom gravy, potatoes and carrots, focaccia bread and apricot bars for dessert. Suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and older; $5 for other patrons. Call 503-635-3758 if you are attending.

The weekly supervised computer lab runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Alder room. Everyone welcome.

Weekly current events with the Senior Studies Institute meets at the West End Building from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is an annual membership is $30; you may attend two sessions before you must join. Engage with others in discussions on various topics and current events.

Pinochle players meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Willow room. Call in advance to coordinate play times.

American mah jongg meet and play between 1 and 4 p.m. each Wednesday in the Birch room at no cost. This group is for experienced players.

Thursday, Sept. 13

Creative Hands meets in the Dogwood room from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Work on handicraft projects benefiting various charities in the community.

Play Scrabble from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Willow room. Drop-ins welcome.
