Maude Louise Morgan celebrated her 101st birthday on Sept. 8. Morgan was born on a ranch to Louise and Maude (Oliver) Schmidt in 1911 in Halfway, Ore.

Morgan had two sisters and one brother. She moved to Portland in her 20s and got a job as a coffee shop cook at the Portland Meier and Frank.

She had one son, Garth, with her husband. Her husband was in the Navy and died when Garth was very young. Morgan attended Portland State University and Western Oregon College. She graduated with a teaching degree.

She moved to West Linn in the 1950s and taught at Cedaroak Primary School until retirement. She was an active member of the West Linn Adult Community Center.

She loves gardening, singing, playing the piano and organ, sewing and was the published author of the book “Westward H-O-O,” which described her father’s story of coming to Oregon on a wagon train in 1880.

She now lives at an adult foster care home in West Linn. She has one granddaughter, Tani.
