Activities, events at the LOACC


by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - The Millennium Dance Band, an ensemble featuring members of the Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band, will perform at the LOACC on Oct. 12.Get excited and put your dancing shoes on because we will be “Dancing Down Memory Lane” at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 12. There will be live music by The Millennium Dance Band and light refreshments will be served, so come and dance to your heart’s content.

Admission is $3 per person or $5 per couple and advance ticket purchase is recommended. For more information and to purchase tickets, call 503-635-3758.

Friday, Oct. 5
The center’s quilting group, In Stitches, will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. downstairs in the Birch room. The group will work cooperatively on various quilting projects. Walk ins welcome. Join us for lunch served by Lake Bible Church volunteers. The menu includes marinated vegetables, tuna noodle casserole and butter nut squash with freshly baked focaccia and chocolate cake for dessert. Lunch is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and better, all others cost is $5.

After lunch join us for the Friday matinee featuring “Iron Lady “ at 1 p.m. The movie stars Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher as she struggles to come to terms with her husband’s death.

Monday, Oct. 8
The computer users’ group meets in the Alder room from 9:30 to 11 a.m. to discuss various topics on what’s happening in the computer world. Volunteers from New Seasons Market will be serving lunch today at noon. Today our menu includes tossed salad, pork with apricots and prunes, couscous, green beans and freshly baked rye rolls and for dessert, ice cream. Lunch is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and better, all others cost is $5.

Lunch and shop begins at 1 p.m. Center driver Jim Liu will take participants to Safeway for an hour of grocery shopping. Call the center on or before Monday to sign up. Duplicate bridge meets from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Alder room. Contact Jeanette Roberts at 503-620-5036 to sign up. Membership is required. Cost is $1 per person at the door.

Tuesday, Oct. 9
The Happy Hikers group meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m. to explore the trails of Tryon Creek State Natural Area and a number of other local trails. The group also meets Saturdays at George Rogers Park. Hikes are led by Krstl Robbins and Joan Bollman.

The Lake Oswego Respite Program begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Acorn room. The program costs $30 per participant each day and is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact Human Services Supervisor Berta Derman at 503-635-3758 to register.

Pre-arranged bridge meets from noon to 3 p.m. in the Dogwood room for open play. Contact Sharon Paz at 503-636-9757. The mental illness family support group meets at 2 p.m. in the cedar room. This group is open to anyone caring for a loved one with mental health issues. Walk ins welcome, no fee to attend.

Wednesday, Oct. 10
The Rotary Club of Lake Oswego serves lunch at noon and the menu consists of raspberry yogurt, hamburger patty with mushroom gravy, scalloped potatoes, broccoli and warm oven dinner rolls and pineapple upside down cake. Lunch is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and better, all others cost is $5. The weekly supervised computer lab runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. downstairs in the Alder room. Everyone is welcome.

Weekly current events with the Senior Studies Institute meets at the West End Building from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is an annual membership to SSI for $30; you may attend two sessions before you must join. Engage with others in discussions on various topics and current events.

Experienced pinochle players meet in the Willow room and play from 1 to 3 p.m. Please call in advance to let us know you are coming so group can coordinate play. American Mah Jongg meet and play between 1 to4 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Birch room at no cost. This group is for experienced players.

Thursday, Oct. 11
Creative Hands meets in the Dogwood room from 9:30 a.m. to noon to work on handicraft projects benefiting various charities in the community. Join us for a game of Scrabble from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Willow room. Games led by Ruth Hamilton. Drop-ins always welcome.
