Enjoy a scary good lunch and costume competition

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO  - Seniors are invited to dress up for the annual costume contest on Oct. 31. Come in for a scary good lunch just in time for Halloween on Oct. 31. Just for fun, we will be dishing up haunting music and our annual costume contest for those who wish to participate.

Party favors and good company will be in abundance at the center. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and lunch starts at noon. Suggested donation for those age 60 and older is $4 and $5 for all others. Call 503-635-3758 and let us know if you would like to join us!

Friday, Oct. 26

In Stitches, the center’s quilting group, will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Birch room. The group will work cooperatively on various quilting projects. Walk-ins welcome. The Special Interest Investment Group meets today at 10 a.m. in the Alder room. The group is free and drop-ins are welcome.

Join us for lunch served by Lake Oswego Fire Department and Etal. The menu includes Caesar salad, fresh baked quiche Lorraine, yams, broccoli, wheat rolls and pear-peach crisp for dessert. Lunch is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and better; all others cost is $5.

Sunday, Oct. 28

Join the center for the monthly solo dinner. This group is open to all center members who do not have a significant other and would enjoy the company of others for a casual Sunday midday dinner. Participants will gather on Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Portland Seafood Company located in Washington Square in Portland. Monday, Oct. 29

The computer users group meets in the Alder room from 9:30 to 11 a.m. to discuss various topics on what’s happening in the computer world. Lake Grove Lions Club serves lunch at noon, which includes a fruit plate, meatloaf with mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, dinner rolls and almond cookies for dessert. Suggested donation for those 60 and over is $4; $5 for those under 60.

Lunch and shop begins at 1 p.m. Center driver Jim Liu will take participants to Safeway for an hour of grocery shopping. Call the center on or before Monday to sign up.

Tuesday, Oct. 30

The Happy Hikers group meets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m. to explore the trails of Tryon Creek State Natural Area and a number of other local trails. The group also meets on Saturdays at George Rogers Park. Hikes are led by Krstl Robbins and Joan Bollman.

The Lake Oswego Respite Program begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Acorn room. The program costs $30 per participant each day and is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact Human Services Supervisor Berta Derman at 503-635-3758 to register for the program.

Wednesday, Oct. 31

For our festive Halloween lunch the center staff will serve lunch at noon, which includes tossed salad, sole Florentine, orzo and beets with pumpkin scones on the side. It’s also the day to celebrate October birthdays, so if you have celebrated your special day in October come and join us for birthday cake. Suggested lunch donation for those 60 and over is $4; $5 for those under 60.

The weekly supervised computer lab runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Alder room. Everyone is welcome. Experienced pinochle players will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Willow room. Call in advance to let us know you are coming so as to coordinate play. American mah jongg meet and play from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays in the Birch room. Play is free and open to experienced players.

Thursday, Nov. 1

Creative Hands meets in the Dogwood room from 9:30 a.m. to noon to work on handicraft projects, which benefit various charities in the community. New participants are always welcome. Join us for a game of Scrabble from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Willow room. Games are led by Ruth Hamilton and drop-ins are always welcome.
