Gather around the table for Thanksgiving

LOACC events and activities

Come and join us at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center for our traditional Thanksgiving luncheon Nov. 21 at noon. Our traditional menu includes roast turkey, mashed potatoes, bread stuffing, green bean casserole and freshly baked pumpkin pie for dessert.

United Methodist Church volunteers will be serve lunch with piano entertainment provided by Joan Diehl. Reservations are strongly encouraged due to the large number of people who attend. Call 503-635-3758 for reservations and details.

Friday, Nov. 9

Obtain a free 30-minute consultation from a volunteer attorney beginning at 9 a.m. in the Cedar room. This consultation is by appointment only. Contact the center to schedule an appointment. In Stitches, the center’s quilting group, will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Birch room. The group will work cooperatively on various quilting projects. Walk ins welcome.

Join us for lunch served by the Rotary Club of Lake Oswego. The menu includes Caesar salad, chicken parmesan with spaghetti, green and yellow squash with focaccia and vanilla/strawberry mousse for dessert. Lunch is a suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and better; all others cost is $5.

Monday, Nov. 12

The center is closed today in honor of Veteran’s Day. The center would like to thank all those who have served on our behalf.

Tuesday, Nov. 13

The Happy Hikers group meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m. to explore the trails of Tryon Creek State Natural Area and other local trails. The group also meets Saturdays at George Rogers Park. Hikes are led by Krstl Robbins and Joan Bollman.

The Lake Oswego Respite Program begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Acorn room. The program costs $30 per participant each day, and is held Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact Human Services Supervisor Berta Derman at 503-635-3758 to register for the program. The mental illness family support group meets at 2 p.m. in the Cedar room. This group is open to anyone caring for a loved one with mental health issues. Walk ins welcome.

Wednesday, Nov. 14

Lake Grove Garden Club will serve lunch at noon and our menu includes spinach salad, ham with pineapple sauce, scalloped potatoes, butternut squash, wheat rolls and ginger molasses cookies for dessert. Suggested donation for those 60 and over is $4; $5 for those under 60. Lunch is served at noon. Call 503-635-3758 if you are coming.

The weekly supervised computer lab runs from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Alder room. Everyone is welcome. Experienced pinochle players meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Willow room. Call in advance to let us know you are coming. American Mah Jongg meet from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays in the Birch room. This group is for experienced players. The weekly current events group with the Senior Studies Institute meets at the West End Building from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is an annual membership is $30; you may attend two sessions before you must join. Engage with others in discussions on various topics and current events.

Thursday, Nov. 15

“Creative Hands” meets in the Dogwood room from 9:30 a.m. to noon to work on handicraft projects benefiting various charities in the community. New participants always welcome. Join us for a game of Scrabble from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Willow room. Games are led by Ruth Hamilton. Drop-ins always welcome.
