Enjoy a Seattle getaway

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO  - Members of the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center will visit Seattle Feb. 21 and 22. Enjoy a stress-free coach ride to Seattle Feb. 21 and 22. The trip, Seattle: A World Class Tour, includes hotel accommodations and entrance to several activities.

Participants will see the Seattle Art Museum — showing Old Masters Special Exhibition: Rembrandt — and more than 80 works in this first-ever U.S. showing. Visitors will also see the Seattle Symphony Pops — where you’ll hear “A tribute to Marvin Hamlish” — and visit the North West Flower and Garden Show at the Washington State Convention Center.

Cost for this trip includes all transportation, gratuities and admission to each activity. Participants must pay for their daily meals. The fee is $304 per person/double occupancy; $374 for a single. Call 503-635-3758 to sign up and for more information.

Friday, Jan. 18 — Blood pressure checks will be done from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. free of charge, donations accepted. Join us for lunch served by Marge and Friends. The lunch includes tossed salad, sour cream chicken, rice pilaf, carrots, rye rolls and peanut butter cookies for dessert. Suggested donation for those 60 and over is $4; $5 for those under 60. Lunch is served promptly at noon. Call 503-635-3758 for a reservation.

After lunch enjoy our weekly movie. The Woodman Chronicles theme this month is suspense: Hitch and Agatha. Watch “And Then There Were None” today. The MAC user group meets today from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the Alder room.

Monday, Jan. 21 — The center will be closed for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Tuesday, Jan. 22 — Explore the trails today with our “Happy Hikers” from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. The groups meets at the center and carpools or caravans from the east parking lot to various parks in the area. The Lake Oswego Respite Program begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Acorn room. The program costs $30 per participant each day, and is held Tuesdays and Thursdays. Contact Human Services Supervisor Berta Derman at 503-635-3758 to register for the program.

Wednesday, Jan. 23 — The Foot Care Clinic occurs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Cedar room. Appointments are made my reservation only. To reserve a seat, call 503-635-3758. Cost is $35 payable to Foot Care Nurses, LLC. Bring a plastic basin and two small towels. Our arthritis group meets from 10 to 11:30 a.m. These monthly meetings feature a variety of programs to benefit those living with arthritis. Today Phil Grasso, of Naturopathic Medicine and Arthritis, will speak to the group.

Today lunch will be served by “City Slickers” in our dining room. Lunch includes spinach salad, pork with orange mustard sauce, sweet potatoes, peas and corn, oatmeal rolls and peach coffee cake for dessert. Suggested donation for those 60 and over is $4; $5 for those under 60. Seating opens at 11:30 a.m. and lunch is served promptly at noon. Experienced pinochle players meet from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Willow room. Call in advance to let us know you are coming so that pinochle group can coordinate play. American Mah Jongg meet and play from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays in the Birch room. This group is for experienced players.

Thursday, Jan. 24 — Creative Hands meets in the Dogwood room from 9:30 a.m. to noon to work on handicraft projects benefiting various charities in the community. New participants always welcome. Today Lunch Bunch will take a trip to northeast Portland to enjoy Cadillac Café. The group will leave the center at 11 a.m. and returning at 2 p.m. The café serves fresh, northwest sourced, simply prepared food.
