Learn manners, belly dancing and more at Parks and Rec

Lake Oswego Parks and Rec is pleased to introduce our newest instructor, Mindy Lockard. She is a nationally recognized etiquette expert and the founder of Mindy Lockard Gracious Living, which includes seminars and training materials, stationery, and industry coaching.

Lockard teaches formal etiquette courses for people of all ages and provides valuable corporate training for schools, government agencies, and private companies. Are you children in need of some basic manners? Just because the word “cotillion” is no longer heard does not mean etiquette is no longer important! Children develop excellent social skills by learning considerate and respectful behavior toward others and become a leader. Basic Manners for Children. Ages 5 to 8, Friday, March 1, 9 a.m. to noon, $36.

Growing Plants From Seed — There are many different reasons to consider starting plants. Come on out to Luscher from and garden with professional gardener Jean Anderson. Learn how growing plants can be less expensive and the simple satisfaction of growing plants from seed to harvest. Ages 18 and older, Monday, Feb. 25, 10 to 11:15 a.m., $13.

Bob Ross Oil Painting-Cypress Creek — Learn how to paint with artist Judy Stubb. This easy, relaxing, step-by-step class takes beginners to seasoned painters from a blank canvas to a finished masterpiece in one class. All supplies are provided and students may bring snacks and beverages. Physically challenged students welcome. Ages 12 and older, Monday, Feb. 25, 5:30 to 9 p.m., $50.

Belly Dance Fitness — It’s time to get fit. Join instructor Margarita Evart for a mixed level belly dance class with emphasis on technique and choreography. This is a fun workout for all ages and body types. Enjoy Belly dance for seven weeks of fitness. Ages 12 and older, Tuesday, Feb. 26 to April 16, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., $57.

After School Art — Come on out and get artsy. Children will acquire new skills in a variety of mediums to ignite imagination, strengthen thinking skills and develop as an artist. Beginners are always welcome. Ages 5 to 15, Tuesday, Feb. 26 to April 9, 4 to 5 p.m., $45 (ages 9 to 15, 5:15 to 6:15 p.m).

LO Community Rowing Masters Program ­— Experienced adult rowers interested in fitness, improving technique or competing in regattas, can join the LOCR Masters Rowing program. Masters practice and train under the supervision and direction of LOCR coaches. This group includes post-collegiate rowers, individuals who have completed Learn to Row classes and rowers who were introduced to rowing at another club.

Whether you are an experienced rower or relatively new, our coaching staff can hone your skills and bring your rowing to a new level. Ages 18 and older, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, March 1 to March 31, 5:15 to 7:15 a.m., $100.
