Sign up now for summer classes

Summer camps fill fast, so sign up soon. Along with the wide variety of adventurous camps there is still space in the Luscher Farm Spring Flower Art Discovery class for ages 7 to 12 years old, where children can make a new gift to bring home for Mother’s Day. Take part in one of the many cooking classes offered for Kids in the Kitchen and Family Dinners. These classes are held on Saturdays at Luscher Farm. 

Sketching and Painting Spring Flowers. Children observe flowers in different stages of development and use different art media to sketch, paint, dye, press and explore art in a natural environment. Make a new gift to bring home for Mother’s Day. For ages 7 to 12 on May 11, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. $17.

Bob Ross Oil Painting — Crashing Waves. Do you love to paint? Have you always wanted to see if you have what it takes to be an artist? This easy step-by-step class takes beginners to seasoned painters from blank canvas to a finished masterpiece in just one class. All you need to do is sign up and the rest is easy. Enjoy a relaxing evening with friends. All supplies are provided and students may bring a snack or beverage. Physically challenged students are welcomed. For ages 12 and older, May 2, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. $50.

Kids in the Kitchen — Pizza and Ice Cream. Participants will experience hands-on fun in the kitchen. Children learn important cooking skills with chef Laura Content while preparing pizza and ice cream. For ages 6 to 15 on May 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. $24.

Luscher Farm Family Dinners — Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea. Spend an afternoon drinking herb tea and cooking Irish soda bread scones and chocolate-dipped madeleines at Luscher Farm with your child. One parent and child pair up to cook and create a family dinner using local and seasonal produce. Up to two other family members join the class at 4 p.m. for a homecooked dinner at the farm. Menus focus on seasonal ingredients, including farm-grown produce. For ages 6 and older. May 11, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. $38.

Tomato Tips from Master Gardeners. Master Gardeners share their knowledge and secrets of growing America’s favorite vegetable. Topics include choosing varieties, transplanting, fertilizing, staking and watering needs. For ages 16 and older. May 11, 2:30 to 4 p.m. $5.

Ross Island Tour. Go paddling in your own backyard. You can even ride your bike to our new location to make it a no-driving recreational day. Explore the backwaters of the Willamette River between Ross Island and Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. Choose optional pricing depending on age. For ages 10 and older. May 4, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. $50.

Adult Learn to Row. Adults who wish to learn to row can sign up for any Learn to Row class offered through the parks and recreation website. LOCR offers both sweep rowing and sculling classes for adults during the spring and summer seasons. These classes are an introduction to rowing for those with little or no prior experience. We teach the basics of rowing terminology, boat handling and safety. Proper rowing technique is taught first on rowing machines and then we progress to the water. Successful completion of any of our Learn to Row classes allows participants to join the LOCR Masters Program. For ages 18 and older, Mondays and Wednesdays, April 29 to May 22, 9 to 11 a.m. $130.
