West Linn Lutheran Church ready to celebrate 50 years

West Linn Lutheran Church will hold the Finale Weekend Celebration of its 50th anniversary May 11 and 12.

The festivities begin with a Classical Up Close concert presented by members of the Oregon Symphony at the church beginning at 7:30 p.m. on May 11. This is a free concert and a light reception will follow.

Sunday services at 8:15 and 10:45 a.m. will feature gospel masses, which combine the centuries-old traditions of mass with sounds of contemporary African-American church and jazz music. From noon to 2 p.m. a reception will be held. More than 30 local artists submitted art inspired by the anniversary theme of “Rooted in Grace, Branching Out Boldly.” This exhibit will be available for viewing the entire month of May. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In addition, church and community members created 6-inch by 6-inch canvases, which will be sold at $25 each during the festival May 12. All proceeds from the sale will benefit the West Linn food pantry.
