Libraries offer incentives to keep children, teens and adults reading

Make this the summer the whole family adds reading to their activities list. The Lake Oswego and West Linn public libraries offer fun reading programs for children, teens and adults with activities and incentives.

The Lake Oswego Public Library's summer program includes:

• Dig Into Reading is the title of the children's summer reading club, which kicks off this Saturday. Participants can sign up anytime the library is open through the end of July. Dig Into Reading has incentives to motivate children to keep exercising their reading skills through the summer. Participants can enjoy independent reading, reading aloud to others, listening to a story being read or listening to an audio book. Club members receive a bag with stickers, a bookmark and a reading record to keep track of books read. When reading goals are met, participants can select a new paperback book prize, courtesy of the Friends of the Library.

• Teens in grades seven through 12 can win prizes for reading in the Lake Oswego Teen's Summer Reading program. Register, fill out a reading log and earn raffle tickets online at After reading the first book, teens receive a new paperback book and can earn additional prizes for continuing reading. Two $20 gift cards to Bridgeport Village will be raffled each week beginning June 17.
