As part of its 50th anniversary, West Linn Lutheran Church has launched a challenge to its members to perform 50 hours of community service, which could provide thousands of hours of service.

Starting this Saturday the church will be offering a service worship opportunity each Saturday at 5 p.m.

“At West Linn Lutheran Church we believe that giving back to the community teaches us lessons that can only be learned by serving, lessons that deepen our faith and our relationship with those in our community,” said Julie Mankin, ministry operations coordinator for the church. “Sundays just don’t work for everyone. We are inviting the community to join a gathering of people, people just like them. We’ll meet for a night of worship and praise. You’ll never know what to expect ... we may have song, dance and/or breakout sessions for meaningful discussions about real life issues. Come connect with new friends and develop new lasting relationships. We welcome all people. Come as you are, even if that means arriving a bit grubby after a day at the beach, mowing the lawn or playing soccer. Come worship, connect with people and connect with God. There will be many opportunities to serve. We can easily come up with projects for volunteers but we would love input from residents on what needs to be done in neighborhoods right here in West Linn.”

To offer input or volunteer attend the Saturday 5 p.m. service or call the church at 503-656-0110.

West Linn Lutheran Church is located at 20390 Willamette Drive in West Linn.
