Irene Jones, the new secretary of the board of the Friends of the West Linn Adult Community Center, is relatively new to the area. She’s a native Californian who came to her senses and decided Oregon was the place she wanted to SUBMITTED - Irene Jones is the new secretary on the Friends of the West Linn Adult Community Center Board of Directors. She has a desire to give back in the community.

Although most of Irene’s family remains in the Los Angeles area, she found a good friend in the WLACC’s own Rita Perry here in Oregon and decided to move nearby and become active at the center. Having worked at Kaiser Permanente in California for 40 years, Irene said, “My biggest goal in retirement is to give back to the community. It’s my sense of duty.”

So Irene agreed to be on our board and she’s a regular volunteer in our kitchen at lunchtime. On one occasion, she even made an entire Mexican meal for all our lunch eaters. She also volunteers at her church and makes knitted items to sell in our gift shop.

Like her friend, Rita Perry, Irene likes to play cards and is a regular at the hand and foot and the whist tables. She also walks with the Peripatetic Walkers, our walking group and enjoys West Linn city heritage walks as well.

Irene enjoys growing flowers, especially orchids, and she and Rita can frequently be found on road trips to a variety of places across America. She likes to visit her siblings, daughter, granddaughters, and great-granddaughter in California when she can, but she’s happy to call West Linn her home for now.
