Plenty of awesome camps still open this summer

Lake Oswego Parks and Recreation offers a wide variety of summer camps. This week we’re calling all skateboarders or future skateboarders to try out this exhilarating camp.

Learn the basics or improve your skateboarding skills with Lake Oswego’s camp instructors. This camp is for all levels. Enjoy a combination of instruction and supervised free skating. For ages 8 to 11, Aug. 6 to 8, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Cost is $70.

Outdoor Adventure

Ross Island Tour. Go paddling in your own backyard. You can even ride your bike to make it a no-driving recreational day to the Alder Creek Boat House. Explore the backwaters of the Willamette River between Ross Island and Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge. Aug. 4, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Choose optional pricing depending on age; 10 to 15 $25, all others $39.

Basic Canoe Skills. Whether by yourself or with the whole family, canoeing is a wonderful way to explore and enjoy the water. In the classroom, we discuss equipment needs and safety. In the water, we teach proper techniques for launching, landing, paddle strokes and boat maneuvers. Open the door to explore the Northwest’s lakes and rivers today. Aug. 4, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $30 for ages 10 to 15; older students pay $50.

Summer Camps

Club 420 Sailing Camp. Master the basics of small boat sailing in WSC’s fleet of Club 420s. Learn the basics of rigging and sailing boats in a safe, friendly environment. Explore the river and surrounding areas while making new friends and learning new skills. Participants must know how to swim and will be asked to complete a 50-yard swim test without a personal floatation device. For ages 13 to 18, Aug. 5 through 9, 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $235.

Kindercamp-Roaring Rockets. Join our half-day camp for children ages 4 through the completion of kindergarten. This camp is staffed by the professionals from Vermont Hills Family Life Center. Children sing songs, play games, listen to stories and create arts and crafts in an outdoor setting. Rainout location is at the West End Building, 4101 Kruse Way. For ages 4 to 6, Aug. 5 through 9, 9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Cost is $85.

LO Explorers — “Power Up.” LO Explorers is a weekly-themed camp for school-age students; combining two field trips a week and a fresh approach to activities. Explore the world of Nintendo this week with a Yoshi Egg Hunt, Pokemon pizza, and 2-bit pixel projects. Friday take a field trip to Oaks Park for an afternoon of roller-skating. For ages 7 to 12, Aug. 5 through 9, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $200.

Glee Week. Join us for a week of singing with RMC Studios. Students will learn proper singing technique and posture and have the chance to sing their favorite songs solo and with a group. For ages 5 to 12, Aug. 5 through 8, 9 a.m. to noon. Ages 8 to 12 meet from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost for either age group is $120.

Art Camp. This camp encompasses numerous art activities. Campers will spend time drawing, painting, making a collage and block printing. This camp is designed to give young artists a diverse experience and establish the arts as an important tool for learning. Aug. 5 to 9. Ages 7 to 9 meet from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and ages 10 to 12 meet from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Cost for either group is $51.

Shake it Up Dance Camp. Get up on your feet and move to fun, age-appropriate music. Camper will dance, learn choreography and participate in a final performance on Friday for friends and family. For ages 5 to 9, Aug. 5 to 9, 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $127.
