The Family Trail Running Series concludes with a final run Aug. 20 at Mary S. Young Park. These runs are designed to get the whole family involved. The event will feature two runs, a 5K and a one-third mile run. The 5K run begins at 6:15 p.m. and is open to all ages and abilities. There is a $5 fee for this run. The one-third mile run is for kids of all ages and is free. A Pre-Engineering with Legos class is being offered for five and six year olds on Aug. 19 through 23 at the Sunset Fire Hall. Let your imagination run wild with more than 100,000 LEGO pieces. Build engineer-designed projects such as boats, bridges, mazes and motorized cars and use special pieces to create your own unique design. Explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO building system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. Class fee is $144.

Mini half-day camps are a favorite in our community. These camps are specifically designed for 4 to 6-year-olds with limited ratios and great counselors. The Shorty Sporty camps are held from 9 a.m. to noon and the Mini Campers recreation camps are held from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. Cost for the programs are $44 each. The Shorty Sporty camp will focus on soccer and will be held at Tanner Creek Park. The Mini Campers camp has a theme of Carnival and Circus and is also held at Tanner Creek Park.

Skyhawks sports camps include tennis and soccer.

The American Red Cross is offering a When I’m in Charge class on Aug. 21 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. This class will prepare children ages 8 to 11 for situations that may occur when they are home without adult supervision. The course includes role playing, safe responses to phone calls or visitors, getting along with siblings and simple first aid techniques. Gun and Internet safety topics are also included. Parents are encouraged to attend the last half-hour of the class. Class fee is $54.
