Old fashion fun makes fundraiser a success

If you were unable to attend the spaghetti dinner, old car show, ukulele and Share Singers sing-a-long at the West Linn Adult Community Center a couple of weeks ago, you missed one of the most enjoyable events we’ve had in a long time. by: SUBMITTED - Bill Barger led a rousing version of Take Me Out to the Ball Game at the recent spaghetti fundraising dinner.

The event was cobbled together by a variety of groups.

The Board of the WLACC, led by President Scott Foster, conspired to serve the spaghetti and side dishes.

Rose and Glen Ek supplied two of their own old cars to show and convinced about 10 of their friends to display their old cars as well.

Bill Barger, local volunteer fireman and great idea man, arranged to have an old fire engine on site.

And the ukulele strummers joined forces with the Share Singers, under the direction of Jim Nichols, to put on a variety show of songs and skits reflective of music from the past. Hamming it up was not discouraged. Lyrics were provided and everyone joined in singing the familiar tunes.

As a fundraiser, the event was a huge success. More than 100 people attended and everyone left with a smile and the knowledge they had contributed to our on-going effort to raise money to expand the facility.

It was a fitting activity to include during a month when the city of West Linn is celebrating its centennial with many historical event remembrances.
