History Pub features Honest Abe


Lincoln portrayer Steve Holgate to visit LOACC Sept. 11

The event is free.What American wouldn’t love to have a conversation with Abraham Lincoln? Starting with his remarkable resemblance to our 16th president, Lincoln portrayer Steve Holgate delivers a compelling performance as Abraham Lincoln.

Hear him discuss his years in the White House and the dark years of the Civil War at History Pub to be held Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center.

The event is free, but call the center at 503-635-3758 to assure seating for all.

Following are the week’s activities. For more information on them and to make lunch reservations, call the center. Lunches are provided for the suggested donation of $4 for those 60 and older; $5 for all others.

Friday, Sept. 6

Free blood pressure checks offered between 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Lunch is served at noon by Lake Bible Church volunteers. Entree is pork with country gravy.

Woodman Chronicles features “Casablanca” (1942). Mac users group meets at 12:30 p.m. and Jottings group meets at 1 p.m. Learn to buy and sell on eBay at 3 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 9

Happy Hikers meets at 9:15 a.m. Write Your Life Stories workshop 10 a.m. Cost is $10 for members, $15 nonmembers. Lunch served by volunteers from New Seasons Market. Entrée is chicken cordon bleu. Competitive bridge meets at 1 p.m.; membership is required to play

Tuesday, Sept. 10

The Lake Oswego Respite Program begins at 11:30 a.m. in the Acorn room. The program costs $30 per participant each day, and is held both Tuesday and Thursday on an ongoing basis.

Contact Berta Derman, human services supervisor, to register for the program.

The first of four Gourmet Living Series with chef Stu will be held at 6 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 11

Jewelry-making class begins at 10 a.m. Cost is $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers. Lake Grove Garden Club serves lunch at noon. Entrée is beef lasagna. Play pinochle from 1 to 3 p.m. or mahjong from 1 to 4 p.m. Living With Diabetes support group meets at 6:30 p.m., and don’t forget the History Pub at 7 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 12

Creative Hands meets from 9:30 a.m. to noon, respite program begins at 11:30 a.m. and play Scrabble from 1 to 3 p.m. Play bridge or socialize at 1 p.m. Learn the Argentine tango at 5:30 p.m., no partner required. Cost is $22 for members, $33 for non-members.
