Keynote address to focus on migraine, stroke, MS in women

The Women of Meridian Park will hold its annual fundraising luncheon on Oct. 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oswego Lake Country Club, 20 Iron Mountain Blvd.

Keynote speaker is Paul R. Ash, Md. Ph.D., who will speak on migraine, stroke and multiple sclerosis in women.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Ash received a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. He attended New York’s Albert Einstein College of Medicine and graduated with a M.D. and Ph.D. from the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles.

After completing both a psychiatry and neurology residency at Yale University, Ash moved to Portland. In 1977 he began his neurology practice at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center where he created the Northwest’s first comprehensive stroke program.

Legacy Health formally appointed him medical director of the Legacy Stroke program in 2007.

Ash founded the Oregon Neurology Multiple Sclerosis program and had led several clinical trials in MS as well as stroke. His broad interests include environmental issues and training his pet dog as an animal-assisted therapy dog to work with stroke survivors.

The mission of WOMP is to help ensure that the highest quality healthcare is available in the community. Projects funded during 2013 include mammograms for underserved women; an annual women’s wellness event for fall 2014 and purchase of a bladder scanner and gynecology specialty staff training.
