Recoup at WL senior center

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Elaine Carlsons journey of recovery has been an inspiration to many at the West Linn Adult Community Center.

Elaine Carlson’s journey of recovery has been an inspiration to many at the West Linn Adult Community Center.

Before suffering a debilitating stroke three years ago, Elaine was an active participant in yoga classes and the painting group at the center. After the stroke, Elaine was admitted to the Rehab Institute of Oregon unable to walk and unable to do many of the things that she had previously taken for granted.

As she began her uphill battle to recovery, Elaine wasn’t sure if she would ever get to return to her former activities. However, her determination to recover was strong. Besides her own tenacity and the loving support of her husband, Elaine credits her initial recovery success to strength gained in past yoga classes and the expert help of the Rehab Institute of Oregon. When she was able to return home, Elaine found that it was the people of the WLACC that also gave her the support she needed to get back on her feet.

She was back to the painting group within six months and has continued to find the people here to be helpful when she needs it most. In Elaine’s own words, “This is a nice, safe place to come and everybody supports me.  I would encourage anyone to come and get involved. It was the first place I came after my stroke. Come and join!”

Elaine hopes to get back to exercise classes and pursue her other crafts as she improves.

Here are the upcoming week’s activities. Call the WLACC at 503-557-4704 for specific times and possible fees. Also, all lunches listed below are subject to change, but only for the better.
