The kettlebell tolls for thee

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO: - Earlene Beko works out with a kettlebell.

There’s a new exercise activity at the West Linn Adult Community Center, and it might be just right for you. It’s a kettlebell workout, and to hear Earlene Beko tell it, “You get a great workout in only 15 minutes.”

Earlene is a three-year veteran of the class and she waxes especially enthusiastic about the instructor, Janet Duback, an upbeat, positive physical trainer certified to conduct the classes.

“Janet is a great instructor who watches you all the time and corrects errors in posture so you don’t hurt yourself,” said Beko.

This is important when lifting the kettlebells, which are ball-shaped weights with a handle attached for easy gripping.

It’s so important that you must take a workshop class wherein you learn proper technique before attending the regular workout class held weekly on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the WLACC.

The workout itself involves more than just lifting kettlebells. Stretching and yoga poses are part of the class warmup, and walking on all fours, forward and backward, between kettlebell lifting gets each student warmed up quickly.

To find out more about the kettlebell class, including fees and equipment, call the WLACC at the number below.
