Attention prospective princesses: applications are now available for the 2014 Old Time Fair Court.

The Fair Court is an integral part of the long-standing fair tradition.

As ambassadors throughout the year, the court visits neighboring communities, participates in parades, perform individual and group community service projects, and interact with the business community.

All girls currently in eighth grade and residing in the West Linn-Wilsonville School District, including those who are home schooled or enrolled in private school, are encouraged to apply.

Application packets may be found online at West Linn City Hall or Library: westlinnoregon.gov or westlinnoregon.gov/library. The deadline for returned applications to the West Linn Parks and Recreation Department is Jan. 24.

The Old Time Fair Committee is also seeking new members committed to promoting the tradition of the fair.

Many of the special events presented by the Parks and Recreation Department are possible because of dedicated volunteers and generous community sponsorship. People of different ages and talents are wanted.

Another program that has benefitted immensely from volunteers is the seasonal social dances for people with a diagnosis of cognitive and physical disabilities.

With the theme of Winter Wonderland, the semi-formal dance will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Adult Community Center, 1180 Rosemont Road, West Linn.

The cost per participant is $5, which offsets the expense of a professional disc jockey and refreshments. There will be popular dance music supplemented with a few classics.
